Special Finishes are techniques using paint and other materials to create decorative wall surfaces that don't try to mimic existing materials, in contrast to Faux Finishes, where the artist strives to replicate an exiting material. Striae, Sponging, Stippling, Color Washing, Ragging, using irridescent and interference paints, all these would fall under that category.
