Article: "Nadia Bertrand, a travelling artist visiting Lovina Bali.In October different guesthouses and restaurants around Lovina were paid a visit by a Canadian traveler who asked for accommodation or food in exchange for a painting or a drawing. Nadia Bertrand is a 37 year old Canadian citizen from Montreal who studied art at the University of Quebec. Over the last ten years she has been on several trips in different continents and she explains to The Lovina Pages how she came to travel on art like she is doing today, and why she came to Lovina.Nadia: The art trading started when I was still an art student and broke a tooth. I picked up a painting and went to the dentist hoping I could trade a treatment for a painting. Not only did the dentist treat me, he gave me extra money because the value of the painting was higher than the cost of the treatment. I have, since then, traded art for meals, accommodation, tickets and even clothes. The trip that I am on now, started 3 years ago and has brought me to Malaysia and Australia. My inspiration for my work I get from the places where I am. Lovina gives me the feeling I have time on my side. I can think and take time for my work which is nice. I just follow the road like it unfolds for me. While in Australia I was filling out a visa application form to extend my stay when I noticed an advertised price for a plane ticket to Bali that was less then the costs for the visa extension - so why fill out all these terrible forms. Next thing a friend buys a painting that covers the costs of that ticket and I was in Bali. I had never heard of Lovina but I saw an announcement for Sail Indonesia and it sparked an interest in me because I have been longing for continuing my travel by boat. So I hoped I would find a ship that was sailed by an art loving person who would take me on board and let me travel with them for a while. But that dream did not come to be. Until Nadia moves on she will be in Lovina drawing and painting her way around leaving a trail of art, which she herself at some stage (in Melbourne this was) called an art attack. From my blog; "I am an Artiste from Quebec, Canada travelling around the world trading art for my needs and luxuries. I first initiated the movement in New York exchanging a painting with the famous Hotel Chelsea in New York for one month stay in 2009. The begining of an art journey. Presently writing a book about the experience 2013."
"By the end of March 2015, we were heading back north to Canada by the west coast of Florida. We stopped in this small town of the Florida panhandle to barter some food as usual (we've been doing that almost full time since NYC) as we had 40 miles before reaching another city...It's almost 3pm and we asked to the owner if he wants to barter food for art; he says : Can ya'll do a mural on my building for me? I've been waiting for that 10 years! We say: Yes!!! of course! It turned out that he put us in a hotel 4 nights, food included and money. This was our first major contract in Perry, FL...and you know what, we have been here 5 months now, busy like crazy painting signs, murals and playing concerts on the pipe organ and the piano!! Perry will remain in our heart forever and we love our new friends too."

we cannot fault our experience with Nadia and Sebastian painting the entrance wall of our home for us. Nadia had a brief of painting an elephant in a jungle theme and other than that it was important for us that both Nadia and Sebastian enjoyed the work and their stay. They started as soon as they discussed with us what we were looking for and worked quickly and professionally without compromising the quality of the work. They stayed with us over the duration which was part of our agreement and through all that time we thoroughly enjoyed their easy company and their love for what they were doing. We found we were sad to see them go and will welcome them back any time they want to come. Every day we look at our wall it's a pleasure
